Sony A5000 là máy ảnh kỹ thuật số không gương lật đa năng và nhỏ gọn, được trang bị cảm biến Exmor APS HD CMOS kích thước APS-C 20,1 megapixel và bộ xử lý hình ảnh BIONZ X để tạo ra ảnh tĩnh độ phân giải cao và phim Full HD với chất lượng ánh sáng yếu rõ rệt và độ nhạy sáng lên đến ISO 16000. Bộ xử lý hình ảnh góp phần đáng kể vào việc giảm thiểu nhiễu hạt tổng thể và cũng cung cấp tốc độ cao cho toàn bộ máy ảnh, cho phép ghi hình lên đến 3,5 khung hình/giây ở chế độ Chụp liên tục ưu tiên tốc độ.

Để hỗ trợ giám sát chế độ xem trực tiếp, phát lại ảnh và điều hướng menu, A5000 được tích hợp màn hình LCD 3.0" 460,800 điểm ảnh và sử dụng thiết kế nghiêng 180° để phục vụ tốt hơn cho việc làm việc từ góc nhìn thấp cũng như ở phía trước máy ảnh. Màn hình lớn và giao diện menu trực quan giúp dễ dàng truy cập nhiều tính năng của máy ảnh, bao gồm bộ hiệu ứng ảnh, chế độ HDR tự động, Auto Object Framing và kết nối với thiết bị di động bằng kết nối không dây và NFC tích hợp.

Cảm biến Exmor APS HD CMOS 20.1MP kích thước APS-C và bộ xử lý hình ảnh BIONZ X hoạt động cùng nhau để tạo ra hình ảnh có độ phân giải cao, chi tiết tốt với độ nhiễu tối thiểu, chất lượng hình ảnh tuyệt vời ngay cả trong điều kiện thiếu sáng và độ nhạy sáng ISO lên đến 16000. Bộ xử lý này cũng góp phần mang lại tốc độ vượt trội cho toàn bộ hệ thống máy ảnh, bao gồm hệ thống lấy nét tự động tương phản 25 điểm nhanh, tốc độ chụp liên tục tối đa 3,5 khung hình/giây và khả năng quay video Full HD 1080i/p ở nhiều tốc độ khung hình.

Hỗ trợ quay video Full HD 1080i/p ở cả tốc độ khung hình 60 và 24 khung hình/giây, cho phép tạo ra những thước phim độ phân giải cao với hình ảnh mượt mà, đậm chất điện ảnh. Video được quay bằng codec AVCHD chất lượng cao và micro stereo tích hợp ghi lại âm thanh ở định dạng Dolby Digital AC-3. Ngoài ra, các định dạng 1440 x 1080p, 1280 x 720p và 640 x 480p cũng được hỗ trợ ở định dạng MP4 tương thích với Internet.

Màn hình LCD nghiêng

Để theo dõi chế độ xem trực tiếp, xem lại và xem lại ảnh, cũng như điều hướng menu, màn hình LCD cảm ứng 3.0" 460.8k điểm được tích hợp vào thân máy ảnh và có thiết kế nghiêng 180° giúp sử dụng dễ dàng hơn từ các góc thấp cũng như ở phía trước máy ảnh.
